Windsor Choir/Voci Ciociare Bio

Voci Ciociare Folklore group was founded on October 16, 1995 by a handful of dedicated Ciociari members of the Ciociari Club of Windsor. Currently the group consists of approximately 20 members, many represent the different towns of the southernmost part of the Central region of Italy called Lazio. The group strives to maintain the traditions and culture, in that, future generations will keep the traditions alive and well.

The Voci Ciociare group has not only participated locally but also has travelled and participated in festivals in different parts of Canada, the United States and Europe. During their popular shows ancient folk costumes are worn, with the region's typical footwear, the ciocie, from which the name of Ciociaria derives from. It is a leather sandal, used to be worn by shepherds and peasants and is characterized by a curled-up tip and held on by straps laced around the leg. Voci Ciociari group include folklore & other traditional Italian songs, as well as dances such as the "saltarello" and "ballarella" danced to the music of accordions.
